One of Studer Education’s partner schools, Toledo Blade Elementary School in the Sarasota County School District, was a Florida Title I Distinguished School for the 2010 – 2011 school year. This was awarded to only 6 of 1853 schools in the state. The Florida Title I Distinguished Schools award recognizes Title I schools that have made the greatest progress in sustaining high levels of academic achievement and for closing the achievement gap for students in NCLB subgroups. We also recognize them for the following awards (see website):

State rated “A” school of Academic Excellence.

Achieved Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for five consecutive years as part of NCLB.

Designated as the Sarasota South County Gifted Cluster Site – Home of the SOAR Program.

Received the National Renaissance Media “WOW” Award for outstanding academic recognition/coverage.

Third Grade FCAT Math scores are among the top in Sarasota County Schools.

Three things that Toledo Blade Elementary School (TBES) did to get there?

1.  Principal Chris Renouf hardwired leader rounding to build exceptional relationships with the staff. He believes that these relationships are vital for teachers being effective in their classrooms every day with students.

2. The leadership team, teachers and staff engage parents through the TBES Parental Involvement Plan; this is one example of TBES creating an environment where learning takes place not just in a classroom, but as a central part of family life.

3. Teachers recognize and reward students when they achieve learning targets.

Toledo Blade Elementary School is a true example of educational excellence in Florida. Check out what’s “right” and what’s happening at Toledo Blade Elementary at http://www.sarasotacountyschools.net/schools/toledoblade/. Their team and their students continue “soaring to new heights.”
