The MyGrade GPA Exercise encourages classroom teachers to take a moment to reflect on their classroom practices by reviewing a statement and then using an A to F grade to rate their performance. This week’s MyGrade GPA Exercise continues focus on our actions in the classroom that lead students to mastery of concepts or learning targets and reminds us that we need to communicate expectations to students and provide an opportunity for them to restate (to us) the expectations. What does this mean at the school-level? Leaders encourage and provide opportunities for:
- Teachers constantly reflect on how well their students are learning.
- Teachers to use student learning and parent satisfaction results on a 30-day teaching period to shape their teaching practices for the next 30 days.
- Teachers engage in focused conversations about their strategies for reinforcing student learning in their classrooms and learn from other teachers.
Participate in this week’s Exercise:
As discussed last week, as teachers we need to create learning environments that promote student ownership of their learning. Teachers can network with one another to discuss what reaching strategies are helping students hit their learning targets and what else they could be doing to further coach their students. What does this mean at the classroom-level?
- Teachers clearly communicate targets to students.
- Teachers align instruction to learning targets and provide specific feedback to students to help them improve as they get closer and closer to hitting the learning targets.
- Teachers provide students opportunities to restate learning expectations.
Participate with us in the MyGrade GPA Exercise through each Monday in June, and July. At the end of the summer, you can calculate your overall GPA; we will do the same using all anonymous poll responses.
