A colleague shared the May 2012 Educational Leadership magazine with me last week so I could read the “research alert” which highlighted a report by the National Center for Education Information, “Profile of Teachers in the U.S. 2011.” The table below summarizes the comparisons in the “alert.”
In next week’s Who’s Engaged blog I’ll follow-up with a call for action – Those who can MUST teach – by looking at a longitudinal report from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) from 2009 showing the loss of (a) nearly one-half of all teachers earning a bachelor’s degree who wanted to teach; (b) individuals teaching who scored in the highest quarter on their college entrance exams; and (c) individuals teaching who earned an undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or higher.
