“In our hearts we want to see kids succeed. That’s the reward we get everyday” (Schulte, WRIE 2012 Presentation). In the video below Dr. Karen Schulte, Superintendent of the School District of Janesville, Wisconsin, shares additional “sweet rewards” earned as a result of the District’s embrace and implementation of the Evidence-Based Leadership framework in the school district.

The cornerstone of an Evidence-Based Leadership process is a framework for leaders and employees executing measurable and aligned evaluation systems focused on:

students improving their achievement levels,

employees believing their leaders provide a good work environment, and

parents feeling satisfied with their child’s education.

Thus, as Schulte echoed in her presentation at last year’s What’s Right in Education conference, the Evidence-Based Leadership framework, brings greater transparency and accountability. The result, Superintendent Schulte described as “sweet rewards” – leaders and teachers achieving their goals, which in turn moves the school district to achieving its strategic results, including improved teacher performance, improved parent satisfaction, and improved learning results.

Learn more about  beginning an Evidence-Based Leadership journey in your school district  from Dr. Marcelo Cavazos, Superintendent of Arlington Independent School District (TX) and Dr. Tim Onsager, Superintendent of Stoughton Area School District (WI) at What’s Right in Education 2013. Learn from them and connect with other high performing educational leaders, and discuss how to set board and superintendent measures and cascade those across all levels of leadership in the district; identify what “right” looks like in service excellence; and become part of a district leadership collaborative.
