Magic Johnson, Michigan State Spartan and LA Laker – Basketball Hall of Famer, Olympic Gold Medalist, and entrepreneur, was in Pensacola yesterday to share a message about, “Creating a guiding vision of where you want to go and what you want to do with your life” (here). For the youth in the audience, grounding this message was the importance of education, “Everything you want in life, you can have it. But, you got to get it through a good education” (Averhart).

Magic was in Pensacola as guest of OperationPeopleForPeace.org because:

Over the course of his successful business career, Magic has become a leading voice for positive community change and economic development in underserved communities.

On its website, the organization challenges readers, “Be inspired to change lives and transform our communities.” We see this inspiration in our schools daily, among staff, teachers and leaders, and in our students. Community connections like this one continue to remind us about the importance of education and of doing work that has purpose, is worthwhile, and makes a difference.
