Maximize PerformanceOn Friday, we shared the story about how Dr. Steven Sperry, director of administrative and human resources in the School District of Janesville (WI) uses leader rounding as a process of validating how well “Always Behaviors” are being carried out. Read the post here.

What does leader rounding look like? Here’s an example from two education leaders in the School District of Janesville, Dr. Karen Schulte, Superintendent, and Dr. Steve Sperry. Rounding is so powerful because it not only allows leaders to validate Always Behaviors, it helps us meet employee needs and gain an opportunity to learn what is occurring in their lives. Rounding shows we have concern and care for our employees.

All levels of leadership round. If we’re principals, we’re rounding with our teachers and staff. if we’re district department leaders, we’re rounding with our staff. If we’re the superintendent, we’re rounding with our senior team. If we know that the individual we’re rounding with has a son who just entered his first year of high school, we ask how her son’s day went. It shows we care and that we know about something meaningful in the mother’s life.
